A wave of 25 attacks on busses has spread to at least 17 municipalities in the State of Minas Gerais since Sunday the 3rd according to the Military Police PM. In less than 24 hours, there have also been attacks against a police station, two bank branches and an ATM machine. The most recent attack took place on Monday afternoon the 4th in Uberaba where a bus was taken out of circulation. The PM announced that they have arrested 30 suspects, including eight flagrantly, as well as seizing a firearm.
One of the theories under investigation is that of criminal factions being behind the acts. The PM also announced that an intelligence operation was being coordinated to guide the investigation and that escorts would be provided for busses.
In a joint statement, military and civil police coordinators, firefighters, security secretaries and prison administrations have announced that they will be operating jointly to investigate the attacks and punish those responsible.
