Hi we were about to book a villa in Villa Sol golf area for a family holiday but I've been reading both here and on another forum about prostitutes and drug dealers, kids are ranging from and it's not something I want any of them exposed to, especially the 15 year old who would understand. Is it a good safe family resort? We would have the villa but were hoping not to self cater, we would have liked to eat out and gone for a few drinks each night.
I see there is a mix of reviews, but by the sound of things we should be safe as a family from being offered anything like this. We had some issues in Corralejo, Fuerteventura with my son being offered drugs while we were nearby at the ATM, made him very uncomfortable and was certainly not nice to witness. Thanks again I think we will give Vilamoura a shot.
In the area near Cats bar at the back of the marina that's where the darker side is. Under Luna Olympus. You do get the odd dodgy character flogging gear near the marina but they don't hassle anyone really. Especially families. You won't see the girls unless you go looking. Vilamoura is a lovely resort but not that authentic as a Portuguese resort. If you want something more authentic try Armacao de Pera or Lagos.
They're a bit further from the airport but might be worth a look. You'll find them cheaper than Vilamoura too. Lagos dates back to pre Roman times. Where Kathleen is proposing to stay is an excellent family resort and no problems with drugs or working girls whatsoever. Vilamoura became a large whorehouse. The area close to the olympus hotel is an open whorehouse. And authorities do nothing, being totally conniving.
After 10 pm only prostitutes are seen in this area. To avoid. Just horrible. The phenomenon happens because tourists come all year round, allegedly playing golf. But after all the club, the balls and the holes are quite different.
